The common notion of the word 'rock' or 'stone' refers to hard mineral, except pure metals or sand. Of course, everyone knows that stones form some peaks or cliffs as usual, and some people construct rock gardens because they like stone decorations. However this word is multiple-meaning. It can be used in such spheres as sculpture, philosophy, music, poetry or/and literature. Architectural stone is used in constructions, monuments, and souvenirs. As far as I know, the scientific study of rocks is called 'petrology' and in its turn petrology is thought as an essential component of geology. 'Lithosphere' is made of large quantities of rocks and known as the Earth's outer solid layer. Sometimes people give the name 'rock' to a person who is strong and supportive. Precious stones like diamonds or other gem are used in producing jewelry of different types. But sometimes there are examples that are called space rocks - they fall down from the space.
